there’s much to be said for chance meetings. vitruvians – in their words, “a meeting of minds, cultures, styles and experiences, powered by music, and designed by faith” – owe their very existence to once such random encounter.
in the summer of 2014, producers frankie valentine and thomas “t-ash” sciurpa bumped into each other in a london shoe shop. over a fine selection of brogues and loafers, the conversation drifted onto music. the duo quickly realized they had much in common, and a plan began to form: they would get together and make music as vitruvians, using the alias as a vehicle for their collaborative work.

vinyl only. french duo dixia sirong make their vinyl debut on inner balance, the daughter-label of chez damier’s genre-defining balance imprint. this offshoot is proving to be a rich source of diverse, updated classic house sounds, and its third release is no exception. ‘winnie’ kicks the ep off with a laid-back vibe perfect for afternoon grooving. the techier edge to ’berry white’ makes it well-suited for later in the evening when the dancefloor starts moving, while broken beats and liquid ambience take ‘haqan fen’ into post-peak deepness – make sure to wait for the enveloping bass that arrives five and a half minutes in. ‘winnie’s cut’, finally, is an irresistible precision groove of the sort you might hear in the late late hours at club der visionaere, its soft pads, ricocheting percussion and rolling bass unfurling into the morning sun.

repress! this compilation is his second for bbe. few can match john morales contribution to the world of the enthusiast turned remixer come producer. john morales is considered one of true legends of the mix. and his work some thirty years later continues to be cutting wedge and inspiring. although familiar with john s work - his epic mix of universal robot bands boogie anthem is the source from which bbe records got its name - no attempt had been made to summarise the pinnacle of john s work. this second release is continued history lesson in dance music. he formed with the late sergio munzibai, m+m productions whose output of over 650 mixes will be unmatched by many celebrity big name remixers of today.
